Of all crafts, to be an honest man is the master craft.

conoid chair #3

Steve McKenna August 16, 2016

So, I started making the seats for the 2 chairs today.  The drawing above was made for a presentation about my chairs to the woodworker's guild.  The 19" x 4" staves for the seat are cut at a 3 degree angle (red lines on 2nd drawing)That starts to form a curve.  I then cut slots for 10mm. domino tenons (2 each joint), and bandsaw the center stave to the profile in the bottom drawing.  I then trace this cut line on the next 2 outer staves and cut to this line with the bandsaw ( holding the pieces at a slight angle) and this roughs out the seat bottom.  Then I make the leg cutout on the outside staves, including routing the angled shoulders with special 3 degree angle cutters.  I'll try to keep everyone updated.

This blog is meant to reflect the       process that is instrumental in the finished pieces that I create, as well as the work, value, and craftsmanship that goes into them.
